One sick little girl for over a week, thankfully on the mend now - no thanks to nasty amoeba parasites. When certain symptoms strike we bring out the malaria test kits – always glad to be able to rule it out and thankful we can afford to do so, when so many can’t afford either the testing or treatment for this preventable killer…
Such a fun treat to find this kapok like snowy fluff all over the grounds at the Botanical Gardens – apart from the high temperature we could totally pretend it was winter! Uganda has some absolutely gorgeous places and this is one of them!
Nothing like having your first impromptu driving lesson with four siblings in the back to rate your skills!
On the hunt for our field officers missing cow. Thankful that despite our unsuccessful efforts she turned up the next day and will hopefully now stay where she’s supposed to so she can start to produce milk for his family later in the year! We constantly find ourselves surrounded by both stunning scenery and incredible hardship. While looking for said cow, Pete found several ‘homes’ set up in the hollow spaces amongst small stands of bush. Low hanging leaf canopy the only shelter from the elements. God give us the wisdom and grace to embrace both the beauty and the need around us.
Small beginnings - the Imuka team! I’m forever in awe of the strength and balancing skills of these hardworking guys who will literally carry anything on a bicycle!
Thanks to this little Saturday afternoon outing with homemade nets in tow, we now have in excess of 100 frog or toad eggs (yes, I do know they’re going to hatch), 70 guppies of both male and female variety to provide us with hundreds of babies which I’m apparently just going to love and 20 tadpoles taking up residence in various parts of our home. It’s almost like living in an aquarium, or swamp. Lucky me, and who knew guppies could jump? Well yes they do. In fact one jumped right out of it’s jar that was hanging from the ceiling (failed experiment, don’t try it) to it’s miserly death on the floor and I didn’t even shed a tear. Not one.
