Since we don't have TV to watch any Rugby World Cup games we've had to get creative! Actually we haven't really been hardcore rugby fans until the world cup - I know, I know, and we call ourselves New Zealanders - shock, horror! I think being away from home somehow makes you even more patriotic, and getting to watch NZ play makes us feel connected to home :) Surprising thing is, I actually enjoyed watching (and even had to remind myself not to keep holding my breath when I wasn't yelling) - reminded me of being on the sideline cheering my boys on at Saturday soccer...
We might be a long way from home - but where there's a will, there's a way! We were very well behaved while watching the second half of the semi-finals in the TV section of the only department store in Uganda (thanks Game for changing channels and putting up with us!)
We got a bit more serious for the finals today and found an Irish pub that was playing the game, got our game gear on and headed out with NZ friends from our hometown to set up an All-Blacks supporters section!
Loud cheering for both teams, standing room only, lump in my throat during the haka and NZ anthem, high fives with strangers turned friends - All Black supporters outnumbered the French and our boys in black won the cup baby! Yip, first time since '87 - been a long time coming!
Proud to be a kiwi!
