The Harvest

Seeds gently planted, watered and watched over by a boy turning into a young man

Four months of watching, waiting, watering, watching, waiting and more watering…

Time is near, signs of a promising harvest start to emerge

A narrow window of time comes into view for the harvesting to begin

Workers enlisted and gathering together

Dirt under fingernails, a mark of the hard work at hand

The bounty prepared; cleaned, a period of soaking in the sun, made ready for use.

Peanuts take around 4 months to grow. They can be harvested from when the leaves start to wilt to when they're almost completely wilted.

They need several days soaking in the sun to dry out. Being brought in each night and laid out again each day.
Had he not watched – the moment to harvest would have unknowingly passed him by

Had he not waited – the harvest wouldn’t have been ready

Had he not watered – there would have been no time of harvest

Had he not harvested – the promising crop would have rotted away and been lost. Forever.

Had he not prepared the harvest – it’s bounty and rewards would be enjoyed by no-one

He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field". Luke 10:2

Unable to gather itself in, with no-one to harvest at time of readiness, the crop wastes away and dies. Never to accomplish the purpose it was intended for.

The effort taken. Eternally worth it.

The mother learning lessons from the young. Through a peanut.
