As a little girl I dreamed of training as a nurse, getting married, having kids and ministering to the poor and needy. Maybe not every girls dream, but it was mine. Hard to believe this time next week it will have finally come to fruition!
A lovely resident at the retirement village I’ve been working at felt to give me this poem she was given many years ago by a man she nursed just before he passed on. It sums up my childhood desire to become a nurse well.
To be a nurse is to walk with God
Along the path the Master trod
To soothe the achings of human pain
To faithfully serve for little gain
To lovingly do a kindly deed
A cup of water to one in need
A tender hand on a fevered brow
A word of cheer to those living now
To reach the soul through the bodys woe
Oh this is the way God would go
So white capped girl in service true
Our Great Physician is working through you.
