Since being here we have truly met some of the most beautiful people you could ever have the pleasure of crossing paths with. This is the story of one.
Maureenu lives with her 5 children in a room that is maybe 2x2 metres. When it rains, water comes in, and when the wind blows, bits of brick crumble off the inside wall. The one single bed & 2 tattered armchairs are her only furniture. Her husband is gone, she is HIV + and often battles sickness. Humbled doesn’t even begin to describe how we felt as we entered her home. For someone that outwardly has so little, inwardly she has so much. She carries herself with dignity, joy and has a resilience like no other. She welcomed us into her home as though we were royalty - sharing with us her jackfruit (the only food I could see in her home). What a privilege it was to pray with her and together thank God for his care & provision & believe for Him to continue to provide for her and her beautiful family.
In the middle of the slum community Maureen lives in is Jordan House - a church and community centre 24/7 started by Operation Uganda to be Jesus hands & feet in this community. Two of maureens children are in the sponsorship program. This is a church that lives and breathes Jesus. Each day we go to Jordan House we fall more & more in love with the people in this community. Maureens story isn’t to make you feel sorry for her, we’ve met others whose story makes Maureens pale in comparison, but it is to show the hope that can be found when the story of One changes the story of one.
